Our Story
The City of Sidney was founded in 1867 by the Union Pacific and named for Sidney Dillon, a railroad attorney. The city grew up around the Sidney Barracks, a military outpost with a primary function of protecting the Union Pacific Railroad track layers against the threat of hostile Indians.
Over 80 saloons along with gaming halls, brothels and the world’s first all-night theater dotted the Sidney landscape when it was known as the Boss City - the gateway to the Black Hills gold rush between 1875-1881.
Where We're Headed
Boss City Brewing Co. was formed with the intent to remember Sidney’s torrent past and to pay tribute to a town that has rose from the darkness numerous times to become a thriving small town with a laid back attitude and hard-working mentality. Boss City Brewing Co is Sidney’s first and only brewery and thrives to become a cornerstone of a new age in Sidney’s history and a business its residents can be proud of.
