Where the term “A shot in the dark” really came into the light. The Capitol Saloon/Billiards Hall, much like many other Saloon/Billiard Halls in the town of Sidney, was the scene of many shootouts and bar fights. Circa 1870-1880s, the Capitol Saloon and Billiard hall saw many shootouts, most of them being shootouts in the dark. This was due to the power of the pistols back then and the mixture of gunpowder. The guns, and the bullets traveled were so powerful that they would blow out the kerosene lamps used back in the day. Not being able to see didn’t stop bar fighters such as James Jameson and Henry Coian, who after blowing out all the light continued to empty their revolvers. The Capitol Saloon Kolsch is the beer to “take a shot in the dark” on. This German inspired kolsch beer has a crisp, golden yellow color, moderate bitterness, with a strong backbone. An extremely thirst quenching beer worth starting a bar fight over.
